AAFFM presents Friction Farm and David Singley
FRICTION FARM
He’s from Berkeley CA, she’s from Woodstock NY. With roots so rich in social activism and music, it was inevitable that they met—while studying materials engineering and geology. Eventually they got around to music, and for two decades Friction Farm has traveled the world singing songs filled with storytelling, social commentary and humor. Aidan Quinn and Christine Stay believe in the uplifting power of song, the power of the people, and the miraculous wonder of everyday life.
They have toured across the US and internationally and won multiple awards including Kerrville New Folk Finalists. Friction Farm's last album reached #10 on the folk radio chart, and they have a brand new one—Stone by Stone—out now.
When not touring, Aidan enjoys woodworking and painting and Christine bakes. They have a big garden, a small orchard, and are designing and building a sustainable home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
DAVID SINGLEY
Born and raised in rural central IL, David Singley is a singer-songwriter-guitarist living in Saint Paul, MN. His music is born of the street, the country, and the academy. With decades of backing world-class artists and performers, he has recently turned to his own artistic pursuits.
His music evokes the golden era of the singer-songwriter: the late ’60’s and early-to-mid ’70’s; with its chameleonic twists and turns, memorable melodies and insightful, poetic lyrics. It expresses a point of view that is at once highly personal and triumphantly global. His voice evokes traces of many of his influences: Taylor, Lightfoot, Croce, Browne, Fogelberg, and more. His guitar playing is at once highly focused and passionate, impressive yet always absolutely appropriate to the song at hand.
His albums have received substantial airplay on noncommercial radio, and his work is showcased on his YouTube channel, David Singley Music.
