Hard enough to hold an edge. Soft enough not to break. Austin, Texas-based duo Kristin Davidson and Carolyn Phillips live that balance and express it in their music, and they "balance each other perfectly in their harmonies and playing," writes No Depression. They play with a compact backing band in the form of Jane Gillman, who lends her tasteful improvisations on guitar, octave mandolin, banjo, and harmonica.
Hardened and Tempered's debut album, "The Trailer Sessions," was produced by Grammy award winning producer and Austin City Limits Hall of Fame member, Lloyd Maines. The Austin Chronicle described the album as “11 neatly wrapped songs driven by slick harmonies, impressive fingerpicking, and lovelorn tales.” The album explores the mythology of the open road and the haunting relationships between person and place.
Hardened and Tempered was selected as an Official Showcase Artist at the 2017 Southwest Regional Folk Alliance, and as a Regional Performer at the 2018 Kerrville Folk Festival. In 2019, Hardened and Tempered will be releasing a series of singles, and touring in support of those songs.
